Smokin’ Weed with Jesus?

No it isn’t just a catchy title to grab your attention although I think it will do that as well. I was watching Ralphie May’s “Girth of a Nation” comedy special and from the info page of my DVR it said one of the topics was doing drugs with Jesus, I was nervous but why not. I actually think he had some profound things to say especially in looking at how the Gospel would be written to a certain group of people.

Just a little Birdie…

I was sitting in my dentist’s office and just outside the window there was a bird feeder tree. (Five different kinds of bird feeders all hanging from one stand) and most of the birds were looking around on the ground for seed that has dropped.  One or two birds would fly up to the feeder and kick some off or even tip it enough that it would spill down for the little birds to pick up off of the ground, and I couldn’t help but wonder why they didn’t all fly up to one of the many feeders where there was a mass of food just waiting for them. Just a tribute to some of the people who have touched and molded my life…

Bob Malkin

Bob was another Campus Life Leader, his long gray pony tail and full gray beard set him apart from some of the other leaders, that along with his wonderful personality. I watched him with his two daughters, and I hope I can have that kind of relationship with Alora in the future. It was Bob who said one of the most prolific things ever to me as a young dumb Christian.

We were at a McDonald’s doing a lunch break on a trip home with Campus life and one kid, we will call him Steve, was sitting off by himself. Steve was a bit of a geek and I thought he didn’t have anyone to sit with so I told him to come sit with me. He said he was fine and someone would be joining him and eventually someone did. But I wanted Steve to know he was welcome with me, and when I turned back around Bob was looking at me and said, “You know Jason, I really saw Jesus in you just then.” It has stuck with me for more than 12 years and meant a lot coming from Bob, who looked more like Jesus and most people I knew.

A ride too far

So Heather and I have been riding bikes for a few weeks now, we started to ride around the neighborhood and in parks. Yesterday we rode our bikes a total of 11 miles which is our longest ride ever. We took a trail through “Three creeks park” which was a 10.5 mile round trip but the trail didn’t say “Stop Here” so we rode about a half a mile past where we were supposed to stop so we rode about a half mile further than we intended but it was still a great trip through the park.

Another Brick in the Wall…

Bricks in the wall

Mark Driscoll was just talking about the people who have put bricks in your wall of life and it got me to thinking about how my life has been formed.  Basically each brick is a person that has helped to shape you so I have decided to honor some of those people who have helped to mold me; they are in no particular order, really I rolled dice.

Random Thoughts

Random thoughts…

  1. Why has my daughter gone from only saying “Daddy” to only saying “Mommy?”
  2. Who will fill the great void of JK Rowling has left in my life, will it be Christopher Paolini, or R.A. Salvatore, or some other author I have yet to discover?
  3. How can D&D be evil and Magic the Gathering be fine, even through the are both owned by the same company, and you are more likely to “perform evil” in Magic than D&D?
  4. Is it just my imagination or do humans need an alignment? Our steering constantly seems to be pulling toward religion and man made rules.
  5. The media is terribly predictable, in fact I am really starting to believe they are running from templates, as Maha Rushie is want to say, just after the tragedy of the bridge collapse all I heard on the news was “Could it happen here?”
Now that everyone is demanding that bridges be repaired in the “deficient” status where do we think all of that money will be coming from, because we know Congress doesn’t understand the concept of cutting spending.
  6. Has comedy changed or have I changed because I don’t find much of what passes for comedy funny?
  7. Are all colleges simply diploma mills trying to lure in as many students as possible to collect the funds at the expense of educational quality?

Good News or Good Advice?

Good News or Good advice?

Over the weekend I heard a message by Dr Tim Keller which quite literally kept me awake and really changed me.  Tim Keller is one of those men who are so deep and yet so simple at the same time that I am amazed.  So, I will finally put some of my thoughts on paper (or on blog) and maybe it will spur someone else on to a greater understanding of Jesus.
