I am quite the bibliophile but I have only pre-ordered one other book in my life and the was Deathly Hallows, who can blame me?
This is the second book I have ever pre-ordered.

I had an interesting experience today at lunch today as I sat and pretended to read I was eavesdropping on a pair of older gentlemen at the next table. (Yea it was wrong but I don’t care) There conversation was more interesting than my book for a little while and I started to think about the older men, or lack there of in my life.

Change in Schedule again…
As much as I have resisted it I think I am going to have to change my posting schedule again. I simply have to much to do to devote time to quality posts twice a week and I would like to improve my quality more than my quantity so I am making that decision.
I will post my posts on Tuesday and if I am doing a post more of a reference to another author’s work it may appear at any time but my original posts will only come on Tuesday as a rule.
I hope you will all continue to read things and feel free to agree or disagree with me in the comments. In fact my next post will be about those who disagree with me and why I appreciate them.

Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord. – Ephesians 6:4
I am feeling a lot of pressure now that Alora is getting old enough that she can understand things about God. I was able to procrastinate teaching her about the Lord because she wasn’t “wouldn’t understand” but now…
She has her first book of Bible stories that she loves. Every night it seems like she asks me to read the Bible to her, so she is making it easy on me in some ways. I just hope I can do it right. I didn’t grow up going to church or in a particularly religious household so I am not sure exactly how it is supposed to be done.
We pray before we eat but how, with her limited vocabulary do I show her how to really pray from the heart and not just repeat the same thing every time. “Thank you God for our food in Jesus’ mame amen” (yes she says in Jesus’ mame) Or is that fine for now?
One thing I do know is that when I explain to my daughters that God is Father, I want it to make perfect sense to them based on our relationship. Many people in this world were not blessed, as I was with a good father and so their view of God as father is skewed. I don’t want to soil the name Abba (Daddy) for my girls. I want them to say “Oh, that means he loves me, he protects me, he guides me, he corrects me.”
How do I teach them about God’s grace and the gospel of his Son?
Have you ever thought that God trusts you much more than he should?

John Piper had some great things to say today. He was quoting Lee Grady who has been slowly earning my respect.
Test Revival with Doctrine :: Desiring God
Coming from a Charismatic background myself, I have seen what results from a lack of any kind of biblical knowledge of truth. Simply “feeling” for God without any discernment. It is my one of my fears about the home church movement but I suppose it is better to have this kind of thing take place in a church of 10 than in one of thousands.

Genetic Fallacy
There has been a lot of talk about the origins of church practices since George Barna and Frank Viola published their book Pagan Christianity. Many in the house church movement seem to whole heartedly reject common modern church practices simply because of their perceived origin; this concept is known as the genetic fallacy. In a Genetic fallacy a conclusion is suggested based solely on something or someone’s origin rather than its current meaning or context.[i]
