Preaching as proclamation

How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? 15And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” 16But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?” 17So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.

I have been accused of not believing in the power of preaching by a great friend over the years, although I believe it is a disagreement on what the meaning of preaching really is.  I believe in the power of preaching as the Bible uses the term but not in preaching as it is understood in the church today.  And I am not sure Paul would approve either.

Sorry

I have several great ideas in my head but with big projects at work and three sick girls in the house my time has been a little stretched.

Might I suggest you to to the home page and take a look at the “Top Posts” tab or the “Authors Favs” They are some older posts that I like or that people seemed to like.

I hope to get some things written over the weekend…

Suburban Missionary

“You feel called to Africa but you haven’t gone across the street” — Many Pastors across America.

I have heard the above quote many a times in my life from a preacher who is trying to convince people to witness to their neighbors. Although I have a great numbers of problems with modern evangelism techniques I am beginning to feel the heart of the preachers who have shouted this to their congregation.

Thanks Gary

Gary GygaxYesterday Gary Gygax passed away at the age of 69. Most of you probably won’t have a clue who he is but to the geeks; he is a hero. To some of you, after you find out who he is, you may think he is the devil’s own son, but you are wrong and ignorant.

Gary Gygax is the man who wrote the book, litteraly, on Dungeons and Dragons. He invented the game and wrote the first Player’s handbook and Dungeons master’s guide. His invention kept me sane in highschool and continues to give pleasure to my life today.

A buddy of mine won the chance to play with him and said he is one the the nicest guys he had ever met. I just wanted to tip my hat to the man.

Those of you who do know him may apprecite this tribute from order of the stick.

Hope you enjoy…
