I work with a guy that is pretty fresh out of school. It doesn’t come up often but the other day I made a reference to Ferris Beuler’s day off and he was clueless.
ME: You have never seen Ferris Beuler?
Young Punk: Nope
Me: How have you never seen Ferris Beuler’s Day off?
YP: I have heard of it but never seen it.
ME: It was a defining move of…
YP: YOUR GENERATION?
Me: …Hey respect your elders…
These are just thoughts that may not be long enough to get an entire post to themselves, but are things I wanted to get written down.
Will all those who voted for President Elect Barak Obama please begin “spreading the wealth around” by sending money via paypal to jasonrfisher@gmail.com, it will help hurry up the process.
I have learned a few things from my daughter over the holidays, sometimes I should just listen to her. She got this new pony toy and was asking me how to make it sing. While I knew it talked I pressed the button several times until it was repeating itself and it never sung. I told Alora it doesn’t sing and she insisted “Yes, it does” I was almost angry with her but let it go because it wasn’t worth it. Walking out to the car I pressed something and for the first time that toy sang. I had to apologize to Alora because she was right.
I have so much to be thankful for that it is almost embarrassing: a good job despite not having gone to college for technology, happy and healthy children (even when they are screaming, at least they can scream right?), I am in the top 2% wealthiest people in the world (at least according to some websites), I have a God who loved me enough to condescend to my world and save me despite myself, and a wife who I love more today than the day I married her.
Have we really been “conformed to this world” when it comes to Christmas? How to I teach my children about the true meaning of Christmas when they are surrounded by contrary messages all around.
• A lot of people are irritated by Bluetooth headsets and how crazy they have made life but as someone who talks to himself on a regular basis, I am glad they make me look less crazy.
• Can we please decide on a secure password standard so I can have one that works on all of the websites I use? Some have to have 8 characters, some have to have 6 some have to have a special character (the ones above the numbers on the keyboard) and some don’t allow them. I have to keep track of my passwords on a sheet of paper, now that is security.
• At my work we have two soda fountains, one Coke and one Pepsi. I got a coke cup and got Barq’s but it was running out of syrup so I was going to get something else, I didn’t want to dirty another cup but I didn’t like any of the Coke products. So there I was with Pepsi in a coke cup. Why to these little things bother me?
• How have I never noticed that Rachel and Leah prostitute Jacob before? “
In the days of wheat harvest Reuben went and found mandrakes in the field and brought them to his mother Leah. Then Rachel said to Leah, “Please give me some of your son’s mandrakes.” 15But she said to her, “Is it a small matter that you have taken away my husband? Would you take away my son’s mandrakes also?” Rachel said, “Then he may lie with you tonight in exchange for your son’s mandrakes.” 16When Jacob came from the field in the evening, Leah went out to meet him and said, “You must come in to me, for I have hired you with my son’s mandrakes.” So he lay with her that night. 17And God listened to Leah, and she conceived and bore Jacob a fifth son. 18Leah said, “God has given me my wages because I gave my servant to my husband.” So she called his name Issachar. Gen 30:14-18
• Reading is really like running, if you get out of shape it is really hard to get back into it. Or perhaps I just haven’t found a book I can sink my teeth into.
- If fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom but only the beginning is it analogous to how my relationship with my daughter works, we do operate on fear at some level she obeys because she fears punishment but eventually she will learn what love is and understand that I want what is best for her.
- This woman had an abortion to ‘save the planet’ and has since had herself sterilized to reduce her carbon footprint. If you don’t believe radical environmentalism is a religion you should take a look at what people are sacrificing at its altar.
- Speaking of Environmentalism, isn’t it a little hypocritical for environmental groups and environment conscious consumers to push Compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL’s) when a single broken bulb can create a toxic mercury level in the room six times the “safe” level for some states? As well as cost upwards of $2000 to clean up? What happens when these bulbs to start to die, will most people know that they require special disposal or will they simply throw them in the trash to seep their mercury into the ground water?
- With the New Year approaching I am trying to get my goals together for the year, they need to be SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time Bound)
- I have an addiction, I have heard from movies and TV that cocaine users have a longer pinky nail, although I still don’t know why. My nails give away my addiction as well. The index finger on my right hand is yellowed from the 3-4 Clementines a day habit I have.
